About us

That "Something Different" you have been searching for! Hailing from County Louth, Glas Quartet brings together four exceptional musicians celebrated for their artistry, versatility, and elegance. Performing together since their early years, the ensemble officially formed in 2020, building on a lifetime of musical connection and shared passion. Each member of Glas is a classically trained professional, having studied at prestigious institutions including the Royal Northern College of Music, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Beyond their work as a quartet, they are in high demand as freelance musicians across Ireland and the UK, performing regularly with leading orchestras such as the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. From grand concert halls and world-renowned festivals to intimate gatherings, Glas Quartet has graced stages of every kind. Their performances have featured collaborations with some of the world’s most acclaimed artists, including Biffy Clyro, Villagers, Father John Misty, Kygo, Michael Bublé, Paul Weller, Echo & The Bunnymen, Westlife, and many more. Their extensive recording and live performance experience brings a distinctive sophistication to every appearance. A favourite choice for luxury weddings and destination celebrations, Glas Quartet offers a touch of classical elegance to life’s most memorable moments. Their bespoke musical arrangements and seamless performances create an atmosphere of timeless beauty, perfectly complementing the unique style of each event — from Irish countryside estates to romantic settings abroad. Passionate about sharing their love of music, Glas Quartet also dedicates time to education, with members teaching at Music Generation, the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT). Their charming educational initiative, “Little Notes for Little Dotes,” introduces classical music to babies and preschoolers through joyful, age-appropriate performances designed to spark curiosity and wonder. Continuing to innovate, Glas’s latest creation, “After Dark,” reimagines the traditional concert experience. Designed to captivate modern audiences, the show blends atmosphere, storytelling, and world-class musicianship to create an unforgettable, immersive evening of music. Whether performing on stage, in the studio, or at a breathtaking wedding venue, Glas Quartet embodies the finest in musical artistry — bringing grace, emotion, and excellence to every performance.

Annemarie McGahon

Viola
Annemarie is a founding member and managing partner of both Glas Quartet and our sister quartet in Scotland, the Cairn String Quartet. Annemarie studied viola at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for both her post-graduate and under-graduate degrees. After 15 years touring the world from her Glasgow base with many well-known artists and bands, Annemarie returned to Ireland where she has freelanced in the Irish Orchestras whilst studying initially for a Masters’ in Business and Marketing and currently researching for a PhD in Social Inclusion and Music Education. Annemarie is the composer and orchestrator for both Glas Quartet and Cairn String Quartet, keeping the playlists current with everything from ‘video game soundtracks’ to ‘what’s in the charts’. At the heart of her classical music education lies a pop and rock princess who loves nothing more than arranging whatever she heard on the radio that morning. Annemarie has orchestrated, recorded, and performed with many notable bands and is the currently violinist and orchestrator for Biffy Clyro.
